Educator Of Week: Laurie Ryan

Educator Of Week: Laurie Ryan

By Jessica Light

Mrs. Laurie Ryan says her 4th grade class at Hancock Elementary is like a family.

She truly cares about her students and thats why she's our Educator of the Week.

Who would have thought... The price is right can teach probability.

"How many are still in the bag?"

Mrs. Laurie Ryan says games like this help her students learn.

Plus... they're fun!

And there's nothing like having fun with family...

"We're like a family I tell them I love them all the time, I say absolutely I love ya, I'd love to take you all home if I had a salary other than a teacher!" says Ryan.

No wonder they love her right back.

"Mrs Ryan's very funny she's just an awesome teacher," says student Samuel Ogozalek.

"I know she always has my back on things and that she is always there for me," says student Aliyah Chandler, who nominated Ryan.

Aliyah wrote something in her nomination letter that I've honestly never seen before. One of the reason she likes her teacher? She recycles.

"They're going to inherit our world, but they can make a difference they can make the world a better place," says Ryan.

And those encouraging words are a great place to start.

They're a staple in this classroom.

"When anybody is stuck in the class she comes over and helps us and makes us laugh so we're not nervous," says Chandler.

"I try to build them up as much as possible to let them know that they they're important and they can make a change. They can make a change in the world if they want to all change begins with the thoughts of one person," says Ryan.

A winning thought that makes everyone ...smile.
