There is a 7th grade English teacher at Whitney Point Elementary that just loves her job.
And her students say having her in their lives... Is making a big impact.
Meet Barbara Welsh, our Educator of the Week.
"So when you set up your 4 square."
Miss Barbara Welsh admits she's an English teacher because she's a bookworm.
She says "deep down I'm really a big geek and I love literature I love writing, it was always an aspiration of mine to become a writer but that doesn't really pay the bills too well."
So here she is, teaching these 7th graders some basic English skills... And so much more.
Miss Welsh tries to show her students that's she genuinely cares about them and has goals for them too.
"To become really well rounded good human beings who respect others regardless of differences and who know how to put a comma where it goes" she says.
She's taught these two ladies where to put that comma.
And so much more.
"I used to be mean and stuff and I used to not enjoy just being around people and I just wasn't really as respectful and then I came here and she helped me understand that I can be friendly" says Kat Alcorta.
"When I get in a fight I usually just make it 10 times worse and she told me its not like, its not gonna help anything if you talk behind that persons back call them names{cover and cut to}so she taught me to just talk it out with that person" says Brittney Hoagland.
Even though this educator teaches these kids something new everyday she admits she learns something new from these kids everyday too.
"Just human nature issues you know how people deal with stress in their lives or family issues and how they balance all of that part of their lives with their academic responsibilities" Mrs. Welsh says.
"And then lets write a note"
Teaching English and life lessons... All in the same class period.
