Everyone's heard about the wine trail in the finger lakes . but did you also know that there's a cheese trail. One of the stops along the trail is the Sunset View Creamery in Odessa. They feature delicious aged cheddars, Monteray Jack cheeses and also cheese curds. It's also a site for this year's Finger Lakes Cheese Festival which takes place July twenty sixth. The festival will feature games, seminars, hay rides, vendors, a petting zoo, music, wine, beer, and of course lots of cheese.
Another great thing to do with the family is to visit Reisinger's Apple Country for some apple or raspberry picking."We have twelve thousand trees," Rick Reisinger owner of Reisinger's Apple Country said. "We have about 50 acres to wander around in and the apple quality's usually very good, you can pick from the ground you don't need ladders." They have over twenty varieties of apples available and although they aren't open for business now they will open for raspberry picking in mid August so make sure you call or check out their website before you head out.
Whether it's a long day at the Cheese Festival or picking apples it's best to enjoy Seneca Lake at your leisure and if possible overnight. The Savannah House is a great place to stay. They have eight queen rooms all beautifully decorated with private baths and all the amenities of home. They also have a gorgeous suite that's perfect for special occasions or a girls weekend. "The rooms are kind of like B and B rooms but they're all individual rooms like a motel," Owner Pat Hoke said. "But there's a lot of space here, people can wander around and we're also right in the middle of the vineyards everybody else is in one of the towns, we're in the middle of the vineyards and the wineries and on this beautiful property." All of the rooms offer a lake view and the owner says it's a great place to relax and decompress.
Although Seneca Lake is just a short drive away it's best to spend a few days there decompressing, drinking some wine, and taking in breathtaking views. A great way to check out the lake is aboard Captain Bill's Seneca Lake Cruises. They not only offer sightseeing excursions they also have dining and entertainment cruises.
