The maker of a Thomas The Train toy has agreed to pay $1.25 Million in penalties for violating the federal ban of lead paint.
RC2 Corporation of Oak Brook, Illinois settled after the Consumer Protection Safety Commission charged the company with knowingly importing and selling the various Thomas & Friends™ Wooden Railway toys.
The paints or other surface coatings contained lead levels above legal limits.
In May 2007, RC2 reported that more than two dozen styles of vehicles, buildings and other train set components from the Thomas & Friends™ Wooden Railway product line had paints that contained too much lead.
Then in August, the company found five other toys from its product line exceeded the lead limit.
