Maytag is recalling close to two million dishwashers across the United States.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission says an electrical failure in the dishwashers heating element is causing fires and extensive kitchen and dishwasher damage.
The dishwashers were sold from February 2006 through April of this year.
Consumers are being asked to shut off the fuse or circuit breaker controlling the dishwasher.
