(WBNG Binghamton) Asurion is recalling counterfeit BlackBerry branded batteries.
They were placed in BlackBerry devices the company refurbished as part of a handset protection program.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission says the batteries can overheat, causing burns to people or items like sofas and chairs.
Asurion used the counterfeit batteries in all models it distributed between March of 2004 and October of 2009.
