Recall Alert: Flood Lamps & Gel Fuel

September 6, 2011 Updated Sep 6, 2011 at 6:34 PM EDT

Johnson City, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Gel fuel that could literally add fuel to another fire, and flood lamps that could malfunction and fall like rain onto people or objects standing beneath them. Those items are recalled in this weeks' Recall Alert.

Nine manufacturers -- Bird Brain Inc, Bond Manufacturing,
Sunjel Company (2 Burn Inc.), Fuel Barons Inc, Lamplight Farms Inc, Luminosities Inc (Windflame), Pacific Décor Ltd, Real Flame, and Smart Solar Inc. -- are pulling Pourable Gel Fuel from their shelves.

This, because it can ignite unexpectedly, splattering onto people and nearby objects, posing burn and flash fire hazards -- especially when poured into firepots that are still burning.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has received 65 reports of such incidents, which it says has led to 2 deaths and 34 victims who were hospitalized with second and third degree burns.

The recall affects an estimated 2 million units of various pourable gel fuels packaged in one-quart plastic bottles and one gallon plastic jugs. They've been on shelves since 2008, and cost between $5 and $20 dollars.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission is still collecting reports.
