Frigidaire and Kenmore Elite Smoothtop Electric Ranges could burn you by surprise.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission says there are problems with the surface heating element.

The CPSC reports the burners can turn on without being switched on, or not turn off when switched off.

Some will heat do a different temperature than selected.

Frigidaire and Kenmore models under recall were sold at retailers nationwide from June 2001 through August 2009.
