Steps to Healthy NY

By WBNG News

Some of the students at Chenango Fork High School are getting a real hands on project that promotes healthy living.
They are working on a fitness trail for the school and community to enjoy.
Here's Jessica Light with this week's Steps to a Healthier New York.
hese kids are hard at work in their Residential Construction class.
They're building a balance beam... the 3rd station for an outdoor fitness trail.
"it's been really hands on and fun to work on. You get to learn a lot of neat stuff that you can use later in life."
The kids show us the first two stations they designed and helped build.
The idea?
You'd start here.
Stretch out your legs on this pole then do a few pull-ups here.
There will be 7 stations scattered around this track by June.
So you'd walk or run til you get to the next exercise spot.

Construction started just a few months ago.
But its been in the planning stages for the last 3 years.
"The Phys Ed department and health picked out what stations were going to into the ground and what ones were going to be here. We just decided how we were going about constructing them.
And the maintenance staff played a huge part in the project as well.
Welding these stations getting them in the ground.
The Steps to a Healthier New York program helped get the project started.
It's an extension of a trail in these woods that was built two years ago.
The student hope their hard work will get use for years to come.
"If people don't use it, it's not worth it so just make sure people get out here to use it."
And that means you.
Gym classes and sports teams will get out here when the trail is complete.
But the community is welcome as well.
For this week's Steps to A Healthier New York, I'm Jessica Light
