Learning To Eat Fruits And Veggies

By Jessica Light

You know your kids should eat their fruits and veggies.

But getting them to actually do that can be a challenge.

Well, there's help available.

It's this weeks Steps to a Healthier New York.

These parents are learning how vegetables play a key role in their children's diet.

They are taking a class at the Family Enrichment Network.

It's part of the state sponsored Eat Well Play Hard program.

"If they're kids are not really into eating vegetables we'll talk about ways to kind of get them exposed to more kinds of vegetables we'll talk about incorporating more vegetables into their daily meal plan without it costing more," says Mary Sever-Mihalko a Registered Nutritionist at the Family Enrichment Network.

The goal?

Promoting three healthy initiatives.

Eating fruits and veggies, low fat dairy and increasing physical activity.

"Those three things will help you avoid a lot of chronic diseases as we all age and keep as all healthy," says Sever-Mihalko.

Steps to A Healthier New York partners with this program to help them promote their cause.

"They're always willing to help us get the word out about our programs involving health so we're very fortunate to have them as a partner," says Sever-Mihalko.

If you're interested in taking one of these classes just contact the Family Enrichment Network at 723 -8313.

They can provide transportation and even watch the little ones while you learn.
