Mission Meltaway

A success Story

By Jessica Light

There's a saying... If your dogs are overweight, you're not getting enough exercise.
Tammy Arounsavath took a look at her dogs and realized she needed to drop a few pounds..
"I had seen the Mission Meltaway commercials on TV so I tried to contact them to get into the program. It was 8 weeks so I though that would be a good start." Tammy says.
That phone call was a good start.
Tammy started attending weekly meetings that shared tons of health information.
Some of it she knew, but other information opened her eyes.
She says "Helped me to put those things into practice. Eating right, getting off the couch actually getting these guys out to the park and putting down the fork."
She says it wasn't easy.
But she started slow.
30 minutes of walking here and there gradually increased into running a few miles.
"I've been overweight but I haven't really had any health problems and I wanted to continue that." she says.
In 7 weeks, Tammy has dropped 25 pounds.
This summer she wants to run a 5K.... or two.
Just imagine the shape her dogs will be in by the time she's done.
For this week's Steps to a Healthier New York, I'm Jessica Light.
