Cell Phone and Cardiac Connection?

Does the constant ringing of your cell phone make your blood boil? It just might, according to new research!

In this small study...94 people with mild-to-moderate hypertension... who were being treated with medication...filled out questionnaires about their daily cell phone use.

Then, each participant had blood pressure readings taken by an automated device at one-minute intervals while sitting alone in a consulting room.

During this time period, researchers called the patient's mobile number three times. If the patient answered at least once, the test was considered complete.

While heart rate wasn't impacted by the phone calls...blood pressure was. On average, readings jumped from 121/77 to 129/82.

Bottom line? Phone calls received during BP testing may increase systolic pressure in people with hypertension...especially when they're trying to get an accurate reading. The best bet is to turn off the phone at testing time.
