Most of us love the long, hot days of summer. But when you have trouble sleeping, all that daylight doesn't help!

Believe it or not, more than 40 million Americans suffer from chronic sleep disorders. So the sleep experts at Loyola University Health System have some suggestions on how to get a good nights sleep all summer long.

Begin by having a routine. If you aim to go to bed at the same time every night, your body gets into a rhythm.

Start relaxing at least an hour before bedtime. That means turning off your phone and all electronics, including the TV and video games.

If you need something to help you wind down, magazines make a good read. The articles are short, sweet and to the point With a book you may get engrossed in the story line and fight to stay awake longer.

When you're finished reading, darken the room. Close the curtains. A sound machine or fan also helps create "white noise" that can lull you to sleep and help keep you there.

And finally, a big don't....don't eat or drink two hours or less before bed....that includes alcohol. You're setting yourself up for a trip to the bathroom if you do!
