Cholesterol Check-up

Tools

Story Updated: Oct 25, 2013

From 2011 to 2012, 12.9% of people 20 and older had high total cholesterol that's about the same number as the last survey.

A higher percentage of women than men had high cholesterol 14.4 percent compared to 11.1 percent.

A highlighted change for this report is the percentage of adults with low HDL cholesterol...the good kind. 17% of adults had low HDL cholesterol... that's down 20-percent since 2009 to 2010.

All adults are encouraged to have their cholesterol tested at least once every five years. I'm doctor Cindy Haines for Healthdaytv. With the news doctors are reading. Health news that matters to you.
