Stars Pitching Unhealthy Products?

right?

Wrong.

A new study published in the journal Pediatrics shows the products endorsed by famous athletes aren't always as healthy as parents and kids might think.

Researchers tracked more than 5-hundred brands associated with athletes Nearly 24% of them involved food and beverages with the majority of those being for sports drinks, soft drinks and fast food.

A whopping 93-percent of the 46 beverages endorsed by athletes got 100 percent of their calories from added sugar.

According to the study, LeBron James, Peyton Manning, and Serena Williams contributed the most to marketing energy-dense and nutrient-poor foods.

Study authors say in 2010, 12 to 17 year-old children viewed more athlete-endorsed commercials than any other age group and they worry about the mixed messages kids are getting about diet and health.

They're calling on celebrity athletes to become aware of the health value of the products they promote.
