Women may be doing too much sitting. That's the conclusion of a brand new study...that tracked more than 7-thousand older women. average age around 71.

All of the participants agreed to wear accelerometers to measure their movement for seven days while they were awake.

In the nearly 15-hours a day they were monitored, about 9-point-7 hours of their time was spent sitting. A whopping 65-point-5 percent of those waking hours!

The amount of sedentary time increased with age and with body mass.

The researchers say these findings are important because other recent studies have suggested that being sedentary is an independent risk factor for heart problems, type 2 diabetes and other adverse outcomes. The team hopes this new data will lead to recommendations on how to get people moving for better health.
