Aaron Powell pleads not guilty to double murder
Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Aaron Powell pleaded not guilty Wednesday to the March 22 murder of his estranged wife and her friend. Powell is accused of killing Christina Powell, 35, and Mario Masciarelli, 24 in her home on Lisi Lane. Aaron Powell, 39, was brought before Broome County Judge Joseph Cawley Wednesday. Powell is charged with one count of murder in the first degree and two counts of murder in the second degree. He pleaded not guilty to all charges. Following his brief appearance, Powell's court-appointed attorney Tom Cline scheduled a conference with Cawley for May 30.. No other motions were heard, and Powell was escorted by sheriff's deputies out of the court. About 30 people attended Wednesday's hearing. On March 22, the Broome County Sheriff's Office found the bodies of Christina Powell and Masciarelli inside her home on Lisi Lane in the Town of Binghamton. She had been strangled. He had been dealt a blow to the head. The Powell's were in the process of divorcing. Aaron Powell remains in the Broome County Jail without bail.
