Abandoned Girl

Town of Union, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Broome County Sheriff's Office makes an arrest following the investigation into the abandonment of a 12 year old girl.

Tuesday morning, deputies went to the Neel-Path apartment complex at 228 Airport Road.

They discovered a 12 year old girl living in an apartment, alone, with a dog.

She had been there for approximately two weeks with no means to provide for herself.

Investigators contacted the girl's aunt, who was supposed to be caring for the girl.

Broome County Sheriff's Detectives arrested Lorraine M. Kelsh, 40, of Syracuse and charged her with Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a felony, and Abandonment Of A Child, which is a misdemeanor.

Kelsh was arraigned in Town of Union Court and sent to the Broome County Jail without bail.

The girl was uninjured and is now in the care of Child Protective Services.
