Owego, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Tioga County Fire investigators say it was an electrical malfunction near a hot tub that caused an Apalachin home to go up in flames.

The house on Jewett Hill Road is considered a total loss.

It took firefighters from four area departments to put out the fire that started around 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

Investigator John Scott said there was an electrical problem near a hot tub that was on the deck.

There were no injuries, and firefighters were able to save a few items.

Smoke could be seen from as far away as Johnson City.
