Arrest in One Oneonta Fire

Oneonta, NY (WBNG Binghamton) An arrest is made in connection with at least one of the recent suspicious fires in Oneonta.

Oneonta Police Sgt. Douglas Brenner said around 2:45 p.m. Monday, police arrested Gable Bugel, 22, of Oneonta.

He's charged with attempted 3rd degree arson on allegations that he set a fire behind Community Bank at 245 Main Street Sunday.

The fire did not spread to the building.

Also that day, crews had to put out a fire in a trash bin near 28 Ford Ave.

This comes after several suspicious fires. The first happened late Friday in a garage at 17 8th Street which spread and damaged a neighboring home. On Saturday morning, firefighters were called to a building with businesses on Dietz Street. As crews were finishing up at that scene, Another call for a fully involved structure fire brought firefighters to a vacant house at 1 Fair Street A house next door was also damaged.

Oneonta police have not charged Bugel with any of these other fires, as they continue their investigation.

Bugel was sent to Otsego County Jail pending further court action.

He is expected to return to court 8:30 am, Tuesday morning.
