Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Binghamton University wrestling coach Matt Dernlan was suspended two weeks without pay Wednesday by the school after being arrested last Friday in Des Moines, IA following the NCAA Wrestling Tournament.

Dernlan was arrested late Friday night in Des Moines for public intoxication and disorderly conduct. Police arrested the BU coach while he was walking back to his hotel that night, according to a statement from the BU Athletic Department.

“We hold our coaches and staff to a very high standard and we expect them to represent the University appropriately,” said Elliott. “I am very disappointed in Coach Dernlan’s actions.”

Elliott also said Dernlan will face additional departmental actions on top of the suspension.

This was Dernlan's first season as the Bearcats head wrestling coach.
