Beware of Binghamton job sites

(WBNG Binghamton) An online job source site issued a warning for Binghamton job seekers and local employers to beware of copycat websites.

RegionalHelpWanted.com owns BinghamtonHelpWanted.com. It advises people to type the entire name - BinghamtonHelpWanted.com - directly into the address bar for posting a listing or doing a job search on the site.

If you use a search engine, like Google, to find the site instead, you will see "copycat" websites come up first.

The company said the copycat websites purchase similar key words for the name of a new website, which redirects site traffic.

When employers check back with the actual BinghamtonHelpWanted.com site days later, their post is not there.

"It's created market confusion for job seekers and employers," said Noelle Schmidt, manager at RegionalHelpWanted.com.

Schmidt called it a common practice, but said it's been happening even more in recent years.
