Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Binghamton City School District hires a new superintendent.

Dr. Marion Martinez is the Board of Education's choice to replace Dr. Peggy Wozniak who has held the job for nearly 10 years. Martinez is a former superintendent and administrator with the State Department of Education in Connecticut.

Board members said Martinez will be able to keep the district moving in a positive direction.

"Our biggest thing always is trying to improve our graduation rate. We feel she can help us do that. I think we're on a path that's working that way but I think she's someone who really can get us there," said Maura Kammerman, President of the BCSD Board of Education.

Martinez was one of 18 candidates for the job. She attended the University of Hartford in Connecticut where she earned her doctoral degree in educational leadership.
