Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The city of Binghamton is getting a boost in trees.

Binghamton announced 90 trees were planted during the past few weeks, and about 100 more are scheduled to be planted.

In September, the city encouraged people who wanted more trees planted in their neighborhood to sign up.

With an overwhelming response, park employees will be busy planting trees this month.

"It does provide a whole different feel for how the city is, how livable it is," Director of Parks and Recreation Bill Barber said.

NASCAR donated 90 trees to the cause. Those trees have all been planted in local city parks.

NASCAR partnered with the Arbor Day Foundation as part of a national green initiative. In total, the goal is to plant 8,000 trees in 2013 across the country.
