Black bear roams through Endicott
Endicott, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A black bear was spotted in Endicott late Sunday night, prompting road closures and several block chase. Endicott police shut down Main Street for 10 minutes, with the help of the Endicott Fire Department, to clear the area of the bear. The bear was first spotted on Adams Avenue and made its way through 10 blocks of the village. According to the American Bear Association, the average weight of a male black bear is 250 pounds. Police say this bear was between 300 and 350 pounds. Village police and fire crews and New York State Police all worked to corral the bear. Police led the bear to the Vestal Avenue Bridge away from homes and drivers. Although police initially said they were trying to corner the bear by the bridge, that was not their objective. Police said their goal was to lead the bear toward the river where it would be able to follow the edge of the water back into the woods. Once the bear made it to the bridge at around 11 p.m., it was not seen again. If you have any pictures of the bear from Sunday night, you can send them to firstname.lastname@example.org.
