Blasting Underway on Prospect Mountain

Town of Dickinson, NY (WBNG Binghamton) It will be day two of blasting to reshape Prospect Mountain for I-86 conversion.

New York State Department of Transportation is using explosives remove rock along the Route 17 and I-81 interchange.

The first blast happened Wednesday, June 20 around 10:00 a.m.

All the debris from the explosion landed behind barriers and did not go into traffic.

Geologists will be on site to control the blast throughout the process.

Workers are using the explosives to reshape Prospect Mountain.

The DOT reminds drivers that while they are traveling through the area - to not get distracted by the work and to keep their eyes on the road.

Blasting is set to take place daily weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. through August.

Traffic delays are expected.
