Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A local elementary that damaged by flood waters, now receives a big donation of more than 5,000 books.

The AMETEK Foundation donated more than 5,700 brand new books to MacArthur Elementary School students this morning.

In all, it totals around $60,000 dollars.

Since the school is heavily damaged from the floods, kids are now over at St. Thomas Aquinas School in the meantime.

Organizers say it will help kids to continue learning.

"They lost their school, they lost all of their books," said Trina Newton, Binghamton CSD Assistant Superintendent. "For many of the students, when they were visited in the shelters, or when they came back to school, the one thing they wanted was their books."

AMETEK operates an aerospace instruments plant on Airport Road in Binghamton.

The businesses has sponsored the 100 BOOK CHALLENGE in Binghamton Schools since 2000.
