Endwell, NY (WBNG Binghamton) More than 30 people were inducted as volunteer firefighters in the Southern Tier.

The graduation ceremony was held at the Endwell Fire Department Friday night.

The graduates had to go through a two-week boot camp where they learned about the physical and mental aspects of being a firefighter.

Although these graduates had to go through a rough and intense program, most of them say they feel prepared because of it.

"It feels pretty good. I've been wanting to do this since I was little, I have worked really hard and here we are tonight and everything is coming true tonight," said graduate Johnathan Walker, of Lisle.

Volunteers' ages ranged from 16 years old to 48 years old.

Endwell Fire Chief Jeff Winchell said that he love seeing so many young faces wanting to volunteer.

"It is really heartwarming to see people of all different ages coming forward, wanting to help their community, risk their lives and step up," Winchell said.

The volunteer firefighters will be at departments throughout Broome, Chenango and Tioga counties.
