Broome County consolidates polling locations

Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Broome County consolidated voting locations for Tuesday's Federal Republican Primary.

Of the usual 123 polling sites, only 33 will be operating.

The Board of Elections said that voter turnout has typically been much lower in similar federal primaries, even as low as 20 percent of those eligible.

"I always anticipate a 100 percent turnout, what I get isn't always 100 percent," said Karen Davis, deputy commissioner of the Board of Elections.

Close to 43,000 Broome County residents are registered Republicans and are eligible to vote in the primary.

Davis said one of the main reasons to consolidate polling locations for this election is to save taxpayer dollars.

"We've had the small towns go to their town hall, because everyone knows where that is, and tried to group them into small groups in the city and put a poll site in the middle of the grouping," explained Davis.

Polling locations will be open from noon until 9 P.M. Tuesday. For a list of locations, click here.
