Canada-based earthquake shakes Northeast

(WBNG Binghamton) An earthquake shook the part of the Northeast on Friday morning at 9:43 a.m.

It was centered about an hour away from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada in Shawville, Quebec.

Officials located the quake about 9.8 kilometers below the surface of the earth.

The United States Geological Society reported a magnitude 4.4 on the Richter Scale.

Natural Resources Canada reported an initial magnitude of 5.2.

An aftershock, measuring magnitude 4.1was recorded 10 minutes later at 9:53 a.m.

Shaking was reported in the Twin Tiers about an hour after the initial earthquake.

There have been no reports of major damage or injuries.
