(WBNG Binghamton) Could Pennsylvania's school buses soon operate on shale gas?
Senator Bob Casey says it will be a matter of days before the bill is introduced on Capitol Hill.
Casey says the passage of the Natural Gas Energy Alternatives Rewards Act would offer rebates to anyone who buys school or transit buses which run on alternative fuels.
30 percent the cost of a qualified vehicle up to $15,000 could be back in the buyer's pocket.
Consumers would also take 50 cents a gallon off their bill at the pump.
"I think this is a bill the whole country can get behind," Casey said. "It's the kind of common sense approach to energy that I think we need right now."
Casey would call to extend the tax credit to the last day of 2016. The Scranton Democrat says it would work for Pennsylvania, which is producing Marcellus Shale gas, and the nation, looking to become less dependent on foreign energy.
