Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) If you work for the city of Binghamton, you may have to move into the city limits.
The discussion of resident requirements for city employees continued at City Council Monday night.
Members said they've sat down with police, teamsters, CSEA and more groups to try to discuss how to adjust the current residency requirements.
Council members say having employees living in the city will help build back the dwindling population.
"Who would be better to live in the city than employees of the city?" said Binghamton City Council member Bill Berg. "They work for the city, they get their income from the city, their children would go to city schools, so it would be a win win situation for everyone."
Berg said City Council will have to continue negotiating, but that nothing will change until contracts can be renewed.
