Ithaca, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A Cornell University wrestler has been arrested and charged with rape in the first degree.

According to the Ithaca Police Department, junior Peter J. Mesko, 22, of Honesdale, Pa., entered a woman's bedroom at approximately 5 a.m., March 30 and had sex with her without her knowledge or consent. Police said she slept through the incident.

The Honesdale High School graduate was taken into custody Tuesday at his University Avenue residence without incident.

Cornell University officials declined to comment, citing an active investigation.

According to Mesko's biography on Cornell's wrestling website, he's enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences, with a major in natural resources and a minor in business.

Mesko was arraigned in Ithaca City Court and taken to the Tompkins County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash or $10,000 bail bond.

Mesko is scheduled to appear back in Ithaca City Court on April 5 for additional proceedings.
