Cortlandville woman charged with arson and 12 other felonies

Cortlandville, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A woman charged with arson faces even more felonies after she allegedly set fire to her apartment building.

Susan M. McMahon, 59, of Cortlandville, is in Cortland County Jail without bail.

She was charged with arson for a fire inside her apartment at 3811 Valley View Drive in Cortlandville.

On May 7 around 2:30 a.m., the Cortland County Sheriff's Office was called to the address to assist the Cortlandville Fire Department with a reported structure fire. The fire was contained to a specific apartment, Apartment #2, with smoke and water damage to the rest of the building. There are seven units in it.

McMahon was arrested on May 11 for Arson in the fourth degree (felony). She was arrainged in the Town of Cortlandville Court and taken to the Cortland County Jail on $5,000 cash bail.

On May 20, she was arrested for additional charges related to the fire. The Sheriff's Office arrested McMahon for Criminal Mischief in the second degree (class D Felony) for the damage that was caused by the fire and 11 counts of reckless endangerment in the first degree (class D Felonies) for endangering the lives of the other occupants of the apartment building.

McMahon was arrainged in the Town of Cortlandville Court and ordered held without bail. She is due back in court on May 22.
