Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) As thousands are expected to head out for the St. Patrick's Parade, police will be making sure everyone gets home safely.
For the first time, there will be a DWI crackdown this parade weekend.
It starts Friday and runs through Sunday night.
Broome County STOP-DWI Coordinator Chris Marion says it's not easy to evade the police net.
"The police agencies that do participate do a mix of checkpoints with patrols," Coordinator Chris Marion said. "So just because you see a checkpoint on one road and decide to take another, there's likely to be police doing patrols on those roads as well."
Marion people should have already come up with a plan to get home safely.
Ideas include finding a designated driver, taking the bus or a taxi or walking.
Police agencies from all across Broome County will be participating in the crackdown this weekend.
