Port Dickinson, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Nobody was home, but two cats were rescued from a home at 769 State Street in Port Dickinson.

Firefighters from five area departments arrived to find heavy flames and smoke coming from the second floor porch.

No one was home at the time.

Firefighters could not say how many people live there.

To keep the fire from spreading, firefighters had to keep a close eye on nearby homes.

A house next
door had some siding melt off due to the heat of the fire.

A power line from NYSEG also fell into the street, posing another hazard.

NYSEG was called to the scene to turn off the power.

Firefighters say there is extensive damage to the home, in terms of smoke and heat.

Broome County fire investigators are working with the Sheriff's Office and Port Dickinson Police to figure out how it started.
