Dogs training to save lives

Whitney Point, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Dozens of search and rescue dogs from all over the Northeast brushed up on their skills in Whitney Point.

It was 'Water Workout Weekend" for the K9-teams that attended this year's event.

At Dorchester Park, local rescue dive teams trained with search dogs.

The dogs learned how to detect human sent underwater helping narrow down the area where someone may be missing.

This was the first year the event took place at Whitney Point and coordinators said they will have it there again next year. .

"It's just a really nice central location having people come up from as far away as Virginia and out in Massachusetts all over New York, New Jersey and PA, " said Jennifer Culver with Eagle Valley Search Dogs.

About 30 K9 and handler teams were training. It was run by the Amigo Search and Rescue Dogs, the Broome County Water Rescue Response Team and Eagle Valley Search Dogs.
