Norwich, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Candidates still in the race for Chenango County Court Judge share why their journey is different than most elected positions.

It wasn't an easy choice.

One that has the potential to fill the next decade of Diane DiStefano's life if elected Chenango County Court Judge.

"I had great turmoil and inner debate over whether or not to enter this race, I didn't want my family subjected to anything that might come out of a political challenge, and that was my primary concern," said DiStefano.

Starting her campaign in March, DiStefano did not hesitate to share her most treasured qualifications.

"I tell them, listen my children are the most important things in the world to me, isn't that who you want on the bench, somebody that feels that way," said DiStefano.

A campaign that showcases her dedication to family court cases and work as a public defender.

Paired with an obvious trait that sparked her slogan, "Let's Make History."

"If I am elected then I would be the first female to ever be on the bench in Chenango County Court which I think is significant," said DiStefano.
"I think that men and women have a different way of doing things. It doesn't make one better than the other, it's just a different way of doing things, and I think perhaps people are ready for that change."

In a position chosen not for campaign promises or stance against issues, but for a person's character and ability to make fair and honest rulings.

"I know that I have the temperament necessary to deal with people from all income levels, all education levels, and that's the best quality you can have as a County Court Judge," DiStefano adds.

To make life-altering decisions for those in Chenango County.

A burden DiStefano now welcomes since first adding her name to the ballot.

"I have absolutely no regrets, in fact if I was sitting back and watching this take place, I would have regretted not being involved in it," said DiStefano.
