Former BU Basketball Player Sentenced

Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A former BU Basketball All Star will not spend any time in jail after pleading guilty to possessing stolen property.

DJ Rivera was sentenced in Broome County Court this morning for stealing a debit card in September of 2009.

He was released on a 1-year conditional discharge,

The court says the former Bearcat paid a $1,000 restitution fine.

His sentence was reduced from a felony down to a 5th degree misdemeanor.

In 2009, Rivera stole a debit card that belonged to a BU student, which he used to purchase clothes and a TV at Wal-Mart, and condoms from a Vestal gas station convenience store.

Rivera was on the Bearcats' NCAA tournament team in 2008.

He was also named the top player in the America East conference.
