Johnson City, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Looking for a job in health care?

UHS has a new Career Center in Johnson City, now open for business.

It serves as a first stop for job hunters looking to work for the health care provider.

Monday was move-in day for UHS employees at the new employment center at 227 Main Street.

"This is a great location. It's a commitment to our current staff and it's also a an easy one-stop facility for people to come in. It provides a positive and professional first impression. It also contributes to Johnson City's revitalization projects," said Steve Snyder, Director of Employment, UHS.

The Career Center is now open for potential job-seekers to come to apply for jobs at UHS. It officially opened Monday at noon.

UHS employs about 5,500 people total. It employs 4,000 in its hospitals and medical group.

UHS is looking to hire more by giving job seekers a more convenient way to apply at the new Employment Center.

It's a one-stop shop for job seekers looking to work at UHS.

"Our job application process is completely online so anyone who is interested can come in here, complete an application on a computer in the lobby," said Snyder.

There are three computers set up in the lobby where people can browse all of UHS's open positions and apply right on the spot.

"We're on schedule this year to receive close to 45,000 applications," said Snyder.

According to the Healthcare Association of New York State, Health care is the third largest employer in the Southern Tier. The industry employs more than 20,000 people in the area.

At UHS, the job openings are not just doctors and nurses' positions up for grabs. Snyder says at UHS those jobs make up only 25 percent of its workforce.

"We have a lot of different positions. Everything from entry level positions to dietary to housekeeping, all the way through professional positions in information technology, finance. Then we get into our clinical professionals like pharmacists and radiology technicians," he explained.

The new building is being leased by UHS. It has 10,000 feet of office space and rooms for staff training.

It houses Administrative Offices, Human Resources, Organizational Development and Physician Services. Twenty employees work in the new building.

Nadene Bradburn, Director of Physician Services, says their department interviews four to five potential doctors every month. Their first spot when coming into Town will be to the new building.

"This kind of brings us centralized with all of employment. It's exciting for us. It also puts us into a much more modern building, a lot more up to date, more professional and makes a good impression for physician candidates," said Bradburn.

Prakash Ramanathan, Special Projects Director, says construction has been going on at the building for four months.

UHS says moving its Human Resources department to a new building, frees up space at Wilson Medical Center for clinical and training exercises.

UHS's new career center is the first stop for anyone seeking to impress UHS with their resume and passion for serving the community.

The Employment Center is open 8 A.M. to 4 P.M. Monday through Friday.
