Helping businesses prepare for disaster

Owego, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Tioga County Chamber of Commerce and the American Red Cross educate businesses on how to get ready in case of a future emergency.

"Every Business Should Have a Plan" was the topic of Wednesday morning's Tioga Chamber of Commerce breakfast.

"We just went through a flood a short time ago and we understood and realized how important it is to be prepared. We wanted to give businesses the tools to get ready in case there was an emergency," said Martha Sauerbrey, president of the Tioga County Chamber of Commerce.

The American Red Cross gave out information and helpful tools that will help businesses put a plan in place.

It says in addition to having of all emergency numbers in cell phones to write them down in a safe place.

Also, the Red Cross suggests businesses have an emergency disaster kit ready. It can include light sticks, a poncho, hand warmers, water, first aid kit and other necessary items.
