Ithaca, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Ithaca Police Officer Anthony Augustine will be released from the hospital less than a week after being shot in the line of duty.
Police say Augustine was shot in the chest during a chase with Jamel Booker,, who was suspected of stealing a car.
Police say Booker, 22, of Ithaca, fled on foot into woods in the West Hill area after Augustine pulled him over.
As the two entered the woods, police say Booker fired once at Augustine, hitting him in the upper left chest, just outside the reach of his bullet proof vest.
Augustine suffered a mild stroke and a collapsed lung while still in the hospital in the days that followed the incident. He also has lost some of the mobility of his left arm and hand.
Police are expected to release more information early Thursday morning.
Augustine will not make a statement to the public upon his release, police said.
