Ithaca, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The City of Ithaca Police Department is investigating reports of shots fired near Wood Street and South Plain Street.

According to police, officers arrived in the area just minutes after the calls of a possible shooting came into Tompkins County 911, but they didn't find any victims nearby.

Several witnesses reported to police they saw two vehicles, a black SUV and either a Silver Toyota or Audi, near the 300 block of Wood Street.

Police said the witnesses reported seeing a person firing a gun while standing outside of the black SUV.

Then they saw the driver of the silver car flee and almost hit a person.

Police said the black SUV was last seen turning onto South Meadow Street.

As of Sunday night, officers believe a small caliber handgun was used.

Anyone with information is asked to call Ithaca police at (607) 697-0333.
