Newark, NJ (WBNG Binghamton) From the second Jon "Bones" Jones took the octagon Saturday night, he dominated Chael Sonnen to defend his UFC Light Heavyweight Championship for a fifth time. But it wasn't until the post-fight interview that he noticed he had broken his big toe in the process.
Jones finished off Sonnen by TKO late in the first round to cap off a wild UFC 159 at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.
It wasn't until Jones was getting set to do an interview after the fight that the Endicott native realized his toe was bending the wrong way.
"It was later in the first round. I was on my feet and I remember just pushing forward. I was trying to lunge at him, maybe it was on a penetration shot," said Jones afterward. "I felt a pop. I thought there may be a small hole in the canvas that I had snapped my foot on. It didn't hurt at all."
Jones was taken to the hospital following the press conference. UFC President Dana White said he doesn't believe Jones will fight anytime soon after the injury.
