Towanda, PA (WBNG Binghamton) A Bradford County judge ruled John DeSisti, 75, is not competent to stand trial for a 2006 double homicide.
Senior Judge David Grine issued the order on Friday.
DeSisti is charged with two counts of homicide, along with other related charges in the deaths his cousin Carol Keefe and her husband David. The couple was found dead in their Athens Twp. home in 2006. DeSisti was arrested in December 2010.
Defense attorneys argued that DeSisti's dementia is getting worse and that he only has months to live.
DeSisti will remain in custody until he his found competent to stand trial again.
Pennsylvania's Attorney General, Kathleen G. Kane, released this statement on the decision, “The court has found that Mr. DeSisti is presently incompetent to stand trial, and directed that he be returned to prison until he is found competent. Obviously we have opposed his release to his home and into the community, and the court has not permitted that. This office will continue to monitor Mr. DeSisti’s state of competency, and make every effort to bring him to trial for the brutal crimes with which he is charged.”
