Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) In Broome County Court jurors watched Veronica Taft's entire interrogation video recorded by Binghamton Police. They also heard from a witness who says Taft confessed to him in a phone conversation.
Veronica Taft is charged with second degree murder in the death of her 2-year-old son Lyric Taft.
Jurors sat through the entire police interrogation video and saw how Taft reacted immediately after finding out her son was pronounced dead.
The video shows Taft rocking back and forth, nodding her head and crying, and holding her head in her hands as she sat waiting for questioning.
A demeanor similar to how Taft was acting in court.
The video was shown as Binghamton Police Investigator Jeffrey Wagner was at the witness stand.
Wagner was one of the lead investigators in the case.
During the interrogation video Taft repeatedly says she does not know what happened, and that her then boyfriend and babysitter, Charles Pratt, would never hurt the children.
Taft could not remember if she put her 2-year-old son Lyric to bed before going to work or if he was still awake when she left.
The footage shows the investigators and Taft going through the series of events several times and getting several different answers to those questions.
One other witness took the stand Monday in Broome County Court.
Jesse Noel used to date Taft and they still kept in contact.
Noel testified that Taft called him and said that she was responsible for Lyric's death.
In a phone conversation said to have happened on January 10th, Noel says Taft described how she threw him up against a wall and kicked him when he was on the floor because she was frustrated with him.
Noel told jurors he was lying in his previous testimony when he said the babysitter, Pratt, killed Lyric.
He wanted to help Taft because he still cared for her.
Noel was also questioned about his own criminal background, and charges he has pending against him.
The witness testimony of Investigator Wagner will continue Wednesday in Broome County Court.
