Town of Dickinson, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A K-9 in the Broome County Sheriff's Office will be better equipped for dangerous situations, thanks to a new bullet and stab proof vest.

Sheriff David Harder announced Friday that K-9 Aevar, 6, will get the vest in the coming weeks, thanks to Vested Interest in K-9s, Inc.

The Massachusetts-based organization specializes in providing vests for law enforcement dogs.

A group of New York friends donated $950 to Vested Interest, which ultimately lead to Aevar getting the protection.

Each vest costs $950 and comes with a five-year warranty.

Aevar is a certified explosives and general patrol K-9.

Deputy Leon Brown handles the dog.
