Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) If you haven't gotten your flu shot yet, it may be time to seriously consider it.

The Broome County Health Department held a flu clinic Wednesday offering flu shots throughout the day.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo ordered New York under a State Health Emergency and encouraged people to get the flu shot. He also placed an executive order that allowed pharmacists to administer the shots to anyone as young as six months old.

The health department says interest has peaked, but there's still reason for caution.

When you get the flu shot, there is a period of a few weeks before the vaccine is fully in your system.

"In that period of time It's important to try to avoid getting the flu by frequent hand washing, keeping your hands away from your mouth and just keeping your resistance up," said Registered Nurse, Susan Blythe.

The health department says it'll continue to give flu shots by appointment.
