Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A Vestal woman is putting collection jars in area diners to help a Horseheads family struck by tragedy.

Christy Frost dropped the jars off Monday morning at the Plaza Diner on The Vestal Parkway, Take-A-Break Diner on Old Vestal Road, SkyLark Diner and the Vestal Diner, both near the Vestal High School on the Parkway.

Frost says any money left in the jars will be used to help the family that lost their home in an explosion on Wednesday, January 26.

15 month old Benjamin Reed was killed in the explosion.

Samantha Stratton, 17, and her grandfather Marvin Hollister were both injured in the blast, and are still in Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

Frost says the money will go toward paying for the funeral costs for Benjamin and finding the family a new home.

There will also be a fundraiser for the family at the Horseheads Moose Club on Sunday, February 20 from 1:00 - 4:00 P.M.

Any money raised through the jars or personal donations will be presented to the family at the fundraiser.

If you wish to donate to the cause in private, you can contact Christy Frost at (607) 259-3222.
