(WBNG Binghamton) The Maine-Endwell School District on Friday announced that it is the recipient of a generous gift from Thomas and Alba Tull.

According to a news release issued Friday:

Thomas Tull, who is the Chairman and Chief Executive of Legendary Entertainment, as well as part owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers, resides in Los Angeles. He is a graduate of the Maine-Endwell Class of 1988 and was honored as a 2007 Maine-Endwell Graduate of Distinction.

Pending board of education acceptance of the gift at a future meeting, and State Education Department approval, the $2.2 million gift will be used to construct a new turf baseball field and related facilities, and for the installation of a sports lighting system at the district’s multi-purpose stadium.

At their Aug. 22 meeting, the board of education received details of the project scope presented by Clark Companies of Delhi, NY, contractors for the project.

The district will present details of the project to the public at a later date.

“Alba and I are pleased to support the athletics program at Maine-Endwell, as well as leadership like Coach Gary Crooks, who continue to inspire young athletes from this community,” said Thomas Tull.

“On behalf of the entire district, we are extremely grateful to Mr. and Mrs. Tull for their incredible generosity,” said Maine-Endwell Superintendent Jason Van Fossen. “Through their kindness, our students, school district, and community will have one of the premier high school stadium complexes in the entire United States - a true once in a lifetime opportunity for our school district.”
